Mission Statement

Our Mission

To Worship God the Father

Matthew 22:36-40  "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"  Jesus said to him, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'  "This is the first and great commandment.  "And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'  "On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

To Walk in God the Holy Spirit

Matthew 28:20  "Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen."

To Win Souls to God the Son

Matthew 28:18-19   "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

Our Vision

To be an Acts 29 New Testament Church in Jacksonville
(Obeying Christ’s Great Calling results in a life of service to others)

Mark 10:42-45   "But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, "You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.  "Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant.  "And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.  "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

The book of Acts concludes with these words about the Apostle Paul:"Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 28:31).  By God’s grace, our lives together will pen a new chapter of being witnesses to and for Jesus in Jacksonville, all of North Carolina, the United States, and to the ends of the earth. This is our vision for being an Acts 29 New Testament Church. As we obey God in fulfilling His Great Commission, and the biblical functions of worship, discipleship, evangelism, ministry, and fellowship; the family of faith at Centerview will grow spiritually and numerically, ministries will be expanded, and the cause of missions will be advanced.

Our Values and Guiding Principles

Simply stated, the values we hold dear and the belief system that forms the unchanging guiding principles for our lives is none other than the Holy Bible – God’s precious written testimony – sixty six books of Scripture – all inspired by God - from Genesis 1:1 through Revelation 22:21 (2 Timothy 3:16-17 and Matthew 24:35).

We believe that Jesus is the only way to God the Father and that people without Jesus are without hope and will perish (John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Ephesians 2:12 and John 3:16).

We believe that God has appointed us as His ambassadors to reconcile the lost people of the world to Him through the atoning work of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:18-21).

We believe that Jesus Christ died in our place, that He was buried and that He rose again from the dead for the justification of all who will place their faith in Him alone for eternal salvation (1 Corinthians 15:2-3, Romans 3:23, 6:23 and Hebrews 5:9).

WE WILL SUBSTITUTE NOTHING FOR THE WORD OF GOD – FOR WHICH THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE!

Isaiah 55:11 “So shall my word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

Our Motive

We pray that the motive for all that we do will be to glorify God.  "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Christ came to seek and to save the lost (Luke 19:10). Christ came that we might have eternal life by knowing Him (John 17:3). Christ came that we might have life more abundantly (John 10:10b). As His church, His mission in coming to earth has now become our mission. We want to bring glory to God by:

Knowing Christ personally
"Thus says the LORD: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me" (Jeremiah 9:23-24).

Growing in Christ’s likeness
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus  Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen" (2 Peter 3:18).

Showing Christ to others
"By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples… You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you" (John 15:8, 16).

Our Means

The enabling power of God the Holy Spirit. "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing " (John 15:5).

Our Methods

We will teach obedience to His Commandments per His Great Commission. "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen" (Matthew 28:18-20).

We strive to worship God and teach and preach Christ through:
*Sound Expository Preaching (exposing Bible truths clearly from the pulpit).
*Sound Biblical Teaching (using the Bible as the primary textbook for all Bible Study classes, small groups, AWANA clubs & youth ministry).
*Biblical Evangelism (obeying Christ’s Great Commission by teaching that every believer is to be a witness for Jesus and by providing training and opportunities to participate in on-going outreach).
*Biblical Missions (supporting the cause of missions through participation in mission trips and financial support of the Cooperative Program (SBC) and other missions (Non-SBC).
*God-Glorifying Music (praising God and strengthening His people as they worship Him).
*Biblical Stewardship (giving our tithes & offerings to God through His local church).
*Biblical Fasting & Praying (praying to God and seeking His will for our lives).
*Biblical Ordinances (participating in the Lord’s Supper and Believer’s Baptism).
*Christian Fellowship (encouraging gospel partnership with other believers).
*Christian Service (encouraging members to find their God-given place of service within Centerview).
*Church Discipline (courageously carrying out Christ’s commandment in Matthew 18, seeking restoration of habitually sinning Christians and zealously guarding church purity)

Our Measuring Stick

God has given His church one Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) and we believe that our obedience to that commission is the measuring stick for our faithfulness. As Southern Baptists, we believe that God has directed us to be primarily involved with five functions that can facilitate obedience to His Great Commission: worship, discipleship, fellowship, evangelism and ministry. As God adds to His church, we want to be used of Him to move His children from simply participating in worship services, to full participation in the discipleship and fellowship processes within His body.

The ultimate goal is for each believer to discover their God-given spiritual gifts and utilize those gifts for the edification of His church and for reaching others for Christ. This means that each member will see themselves as responsible for being a witness for Christ (Acts 1:8) and for serving Christ in at least one ministry (Romans 12:1-6).  As a church, we will be involved with world-wide missions by praying, giving and going. This will all culminate in four measurable results: spiritual growth (of our current members as measured over time), numerical growth (new members added each year), missions advance (number of mission trips and amount of financial support to mission causes) and ministry expansion (percentage of members involved in ministry and initiation of new ministries).
