Church Membership
You may join the church by a profession of your faith in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.  This means turning from your sin (repentance) and trusting (putting faith) in what Jesus did for you on the cross. You are confessing that He died to pay for your sins, that He was buried, and that He rose again from the dead on the third day, according to the Scripture. You are saying that you believe that going to heaven is not about what you have done but about trusting in Jesus and what He has done for you! You must also be willing to follow Him in believer’s baptism by immersion.

You may also join the church by a statement of your faith in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.  This means that in your past, you have turned from your sin (repentance) and trusted (put your faith) in what Jesus did for you on the cross. You also have already experienced believer’s baptism by immersion (going under the water as a saved sinner and coming up out of the water in order to represent your resurrection life in and through Jesus Christ).

You may also join the church by a promise of letter of recommendation from another evangelical Christian church. This means you are saying that you have already been saved and baptized by immersion and now want to transfer your church membership to the Centerview Baptist Church.

Frequently Asked Questions & Answers about salvation & church membership:

Do I have to walk the aisle to be saved?  Absolutely not!  The Bible says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31)

Do I have to be baptized to be saved?  Absolutely not!  The Bible says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Why must I be baptized by immersion to join the church since it’s not required for salvation?  We are baptized by immersion because Jesus commanded it.  It is an act of obedience to Him.  It is also a beautiful picture of the gospel – the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.  (Romans 6:1-11, Matthew 28:18-20).  In the New Testament, baptism was always post-salvation – there is no record in Scripture of infant baptism or of baptism by any means other than immersion.  (Acts 8:35-38)

Do I have to walk the aisle to join the church?  Absolutely not!  The Bible says, “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:47b).  At Centerview, however, we want to make sure that everyone who is on the roll of the church is on the roll in heaven!  Therefore you will need to talk to one of our pastors about becoming a member.

What does the term "public profession of faith" mean?  The New Testament model for public profession of faith was always participation in believer’s baptism.  Jesus said: "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.  But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”  (Matthew 10:32-33)
